History
The Lancia Lambda Torpedo, a car designed and built in the late 1920s, was very innovative: the front hood is low, allowing the car to have a larger windshield. Also the roof, when open, disappeared into a special made space. The car was designed by Battista Giuseppe Falchetto. There are around 13,000 Torpedo's produced in nine series between 1922 and 1931.The first Lambda appeared at the Paris Auto Salon in November 1922. It was not designed to be a race car: the manufacturer especially wanted to make it a touring car. However, a series of special Lambda "Corsa" versions was prepared for the Coppa delle 1000 Miglia In 1927.
Car description
This Lancia Lambda Torpedo (chassis 15725 – construction No. 5763) is a 7th series and has a monocoque, short wheel base (Tipo 218) chassis, independent front suspension, an aluminium Lancia V4 engine and hydraulic dampers. The rare torpedo body, the body of a 6th series Lambda, was built on it by Carrozzeria Casaro of Turin. It was completed the 27th of August 1926 and tested the 1st of September 1926. The original color of this car was red, but this changed in dark blue after a restoration made in 1957. The car now has a proper 7th series engine (Tipo 78) no. 5749.
