Description
Our Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopio with chassis number 1120030 was completed in the factory on October 26th, 1974 and delivered on November 15th, 1974 via the Lamborghini dealer Lamborauto in Turin. The colour combination Argento with leather tobacco was only delivered once with any LP400 Periscopio.
Of the only around 150 Periscopio built, chassis number 1120030 is the 15th car leving the factory. According to Lamborghini Classic Club Germany and the Lamborghini archive, the car was in the hands of Walter Wolf at some time. A glamerous personality in the 1970s with his own Formula 1 team and ambitions at the time to buy the Lamborghini brand and bring it to the premier class of motorsport.
After years in North America and Canada, the car found its way back to Europe and was then sold by its owner from Austria in 2014. Intense service work was carried out on the vehicle between 2014 and 2015 and we at Schaltkulisse were able to sell the vehicle into a large and important collection in 2015. After a few years in this German collection of various historically very relevant Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, we are now delighted to be able to offer this special example again in our showroom.
At the end of last year we decided to subject this amazingly original vehicle to a subtle partial restoration. The focus was primarily to overhaul the mechanics and the renewal of the paintwork. The paintwork has already been renewed approx. 25 years ago, but its quality and today's requirements were no longer appropriate. So we handed the car over to the Lamborghini legend Valentino Balboni himself to supervise the repaint and the mechanical overhaul by his team in Italy. This included a new clutch, extensive work on chassis components and classic service work, just to mention a few. A total of around € 60,000 has been invested in the last 12 months. The interiour was deliberately left untouched, as it is still very well preserved with its wonderful patina and still exudes a sympathetic and authentic charm from the past 46 years of this unique LP400.
Due to the extensive work, this Periscopio drives surprisingly tightly and precisely. Steering, chassis and engine work perfectly and inspire with their freshness. A Lamborghini Countach LP400 is by today's standards not a vehicle for competition and acceleration orgies. But with its still impressive power and dynamic and epic design by Gandini, the Periscopio is an absolute masterpiece in automotive history. It is definitely a car that will last forever, and its importance cannot be placed high enough. The rare and originally purist LP400, with its visual borrowings from the prototype vehicles, should have its place in every sophisticated sports car collection, if not necessarily. Here is the opportunity to acquire a wonderfully original, authentic and mechanically completely overhauled vehicle, which in this wonderful colour scheme is also a truly unique LP400.
