A 52 inch "Royal Mail" Ordinary Bicycle by Read & Son of Boston, American, circa 1889, black painted tapered backbone applied with nickelled maker's plaque and mounting step, sprung saddle frame with replaced leather cover, nickelled headstock with detachable handlebars (repaired), lever front brake all with turned wooden grips, nickelled leg guard, nickelled front hub fitted with Abingdon cranks and original pedals with later rubber grips (detached original Royal Mail stamped white rubber pedal grips are sold with the lot), 52 inch diameter driving wheel with replaced crescent shaped rim and tangential spokes, replaced solid red rubber tyre, original trailing wheel with matching tyre. Subject to an overhaul by Pinkerton Cycle Restorations circa 2011, this machine is ready to race, ride or display.
