Description

"Mercedes-Benz revived one of its most famous model designations of all time when it introduced the new 300 SL in 1985. However, on this occasion the newcomer was not a thinly disguised sports racer but the latest in a noble line of six-cylinder luxury Gran Turismos stretching back to the 230 SL of 1963 which was distinguished by its distinctive optional hardtop that earned the model its nickname ‘Pagoda top’. When the Type 113 finally finished with the 280 SL in 1971, it was replaced by the V8 engined Type 107, there would not be a six-cylinder model in the range for a further nine years, this changed in 1980 with the launch of the new 280 SL. This used the same twin overhead camshaft engine as the other ‘280’ models which gave 185bhp and a top speed of 127mph. When the 300 SL took over in 1985, it came with a single camshaft engine that produced a mere three horsepower more at the top end, the main gains over the superseded engine being a useful increase in torque and a marked reduction in fuel consumption.
This very low mileage, 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster with a four-speed automatic gearbox, was supplied to Jacksons of Jersey to resale. First registered in 1996 when the car sold to its one and only lady owner who resided in Guernsey this is confirmed by the original bill of sale. During her ownership, the 300 SL was regularly serviced by Jacksons and has only covered 10,000 miles, never leaving the islands. Finished in Signal Red with matching hardtop which was never taken off the car until recently revealing a black soft-top in as new condition. The interior is finished in mushroom leather and comes with the optional rear seat and illuminated vanity mirrors. Recently imported directly from Guernsey, the car is supplied with all the paperwork for the new owner to register the car in their own name, making them the only owner in the UK. The paperwork includes the NOVA certificate, Guernsey registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in August 2021 and a dating document from Mercedes-Benz. Also supplied with the car is the complete book pack with a stamped service book with sixteen main dealer stamps, full set of tools, first aid kit still in the cellophane packaging and the original, unused spare wheel. Included in the history file are copies of all the service invoices which match the stamps in the service book. This Mercedes-Benz built in 1989, one of the very last of this model, is ready to use and enjoyed, making this a real modern and desirable classic.
