Debuting at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider featured Pinin Farina–designed open-top bodywork and a 1.3-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine, four-speed manual gearbox, and drum brakes. The more sporting Veloce model produced 105 hp, 36 more than standard, and could rev to over 7,000 rpm and reach a top speed of over 110 mph.

According to correspondence on file with Automobilismo Storico Alfa Romeo – the manufacturer’s in-house documentation center – this 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce was originally one of 24 Alfa Romeo 750 G Monoposto race cars. These cars were originally equipped with reinforced chassis, lightweight bodywork, competition engine, a metal tonneau over the passenger seat, and a wraparound windscreen for the driver. A handful of these cars raced in Europe, with former Grand Prix driver Consalvo Sanesi participating in the Targa Florio, Giro di Sicilia, and Mille Miglia of 1956. While little is known of its early history, the Spider was noted to have been transformed into a standard Type 750 F prior to its sale to Hoffman Motor Car Company of New York in June 1958.

Before being sold to Tommy Trabue by famed Alfisti and racer Al Leake in January 2008, the car had been race-prepared with a later 1600 engine, Panasport wheels, and fiberglass doors, hood, and trunk. The enduring qualities of this delightful and rare Alfa Romeo offer an exciting opportunity.
