Half roll-cage, full harness belts, fire extinguisher and battery cut-out switches, just 12,800 miles and full service historyGenuine mid-engined exotics don't tend to wear German badges. Yes, there have been a few such anomalies down the years, but they rarely received the acclaim of their Italian counterparts. Here's the car that broke the mould, the Audi R8. Here was proof that you could buy a car with the charisma and presence of a Lamborghini and the engineering of, well, of an Audi and in V10 guise it has the performance to match. The Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans Quattro concept car (designed by Frank Lamberty and Julian Hoenig), first appeared at the 2003 International Geneva Motor Show. The R8 road car was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on 30th September 2006. Initial models included the R8 4.2 FSI Coupe(with a V8 engine) and R8 5.2 FSI Coupe(with a V10 engine). At the time, 6-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx described the R8 as "the best handling road car today".The car presented here is a 2011 Audi R8 GT, a limited-edition variant of the V10 R8 coup.Only 333 examples were ever built, with just 33 allocated to the UK ata (basic) launch price of 142,585, and all were sold prior to release. Think of the GT as a Superleggera version of the R8, a car to take on the likes of GT3 RS and M3 GTS. Power is up to 552bhp at 8000rpm (up from 518bhp) all throughelectronic wizardry, giving a top speed of 199mph and a 0-62mph time of 3.6 seconds. The only gearbox available for the GT is the R-Tronic automated manual. Audi says this is because it wanted to finesse only one gearbox for the 333 cars and the R-Tronic, globally, is more popular.Unique GT features include new manual seats (which alone save 31.5kg), carbon body panels, thinner glass, a thinner exhaust, a magnesium engine subframe, and shaved carpets, all strive to make the GT 100kg lighter than its R8 V10 brethren - 1525kgs isnt bad for a V10-engined supercar with four-wheel drive! The GT wears passive springs and dampers that lower the body by 10mm over the standard car; camber rates are upped, and the steering is even quicker, all to boost agility, with carbon-ceramic brakes and a limited-slip rear differential as standard. Other GT-specific additions include the use of Alcantara, a carbon rear wing, carbon winglets, two very big tailpipes, and bespoke 19-inch wheels. This particular car has the additional Race Pack, costing an extra 6,640, whichincludes a half roll-cage, full harness belts, fire extinguisher and battery cut-out switches. With just twoformer keepers, a full and up-to-date servicing schedule with Audi, and coming from a privatevendor, this really is a great example and believed to be one of just two GT models fitted with the Race Pack.A very special R8, yet it remains a usable everyday car with sat-nav and air-con; dont miss it!
