Description
The Jaguar E-Type remains among the most sought-after collectibles of our era, a position it has held since the iconic design was launched in 1961. In desirable 4.2-litre Roadster form, the E-Type ticks every box for the modern enthusiast of vintage cars, offering an enticing blend of style, substance, and impressive performance. Few cars, especially at its price point, can match the incredible experience of owning an E-Type.
In spring 2017, the consignor, a renowned restorer, purchased this Series I Roadster from Alistair Niblett of Ohio, with the sole intent of completing a world-class restoration. Upon his inspection, the consignor found that chassis 1E11769, which had been previously disassembled as part of a stalled restoration effort, showed no signs of previous accident damage and that the body was sound and thus a perfect candidate.
Over the last year the car has been completely and meticulously restored. At his atelier, the consignor stripped the E-Type completely, and while the body was being prepared for a show-quality repaint, all mechanicals were rebuilt to ensure proper operation.
According to the consignor, the engine work included a complete teardown before the block was bored .020" and fitted with corresponding new pistons. The rotating assembly was dynamically balanced and rods were rebuilt with bushings before the bottom end was assembled with new bearings and seals. New valves, springs, and tappets were fitted to the cylinder head, and the final assembly was finished with new timing chains and gaskets. The gearbox received a new layshaft, synchro rings, and bearings. The differential also received new bearings and seals, in addition to a change from the standard 3.54 gears to a taller ratio of 3.07:1, ensuring more relaxed highway cruising. Many new components were installed, including a wiring harness, windscreen and door glass, brake cylinders, and clutch assembly.
The original combination of white paint over a black interior was exchanged for an exquisite Dark Opalescent Blue (Jaguar color 7409) exterior, and proper and sumptuous beige leather upholstery was sourced from England. Replated trim, chrome wire wheels, and a dark blue canvas top ensure that the overall aesthetic is stunning. This gorgeous Roadster comes with a JDHT Certificate, restoration photographs, tool kit, manual, and service book. Only about 50 miles had been accumulated on the restoration at the time of cataloguing.
Finished to an uncommonly high standard, including particular care to ensure impeccable panel fit and finish, this superb Series I E-Type will appeal to the discerning collector through its impeccably executed aesthetics and ultimate driveability.
