Description
Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder August 17th - 19th, 2017 at Russo and Steele\'s 17th Annual Monterey, California Auction. Please contact us for more information. The Mercury Custom is a full-size car model that was introduced by Mercury in 1952. It would later share the same body style with the slightly more upscale Marquis, and the Park Lane and Montclair until the latter two were extinguished after the 1968 model year. During its production, the Custom served as the high-end, mid-range, and entry-level full-size Mercury at various times throughout its run. It was the only Mercury to be in continuous production throughout the 1960s. Mercury for 1952 received a styling and engineering redesign that provided 18 more window area. It also had frenched headlamps, a one piece curved windshield and wraparound rear window. The heater and vent controls were changed to levers and placed on a plane set perpendicular to the dash behind the steering wheel, inspired by flight controls in large aircraft. There was a fake hood scoop with a massive integrated bumper/grill. The slightly lower-priced Custom series exterior styling resembled the Monterey except for the chrome rocker panels and fancier wheel covers. Suspension pedals were new to both models. The rear doors of Mercury sedans now opened in the conventional manner This Mercury Custom went through a total restoration over a three-year period that was completed in 2009. The work was done by a respected professional restoration company. This car was restored back to its original condition, except mechanically the 125 horsepower V8 engine was replaced with a Ford V8 390 motor that produces 420 horsepower. In addition, other new matching parts were installed. The car has less than 500 miles on the engine since completion. The paint is Midnight Blue with Red and Black leather upholstery. The car comes with a custom car cover. This is a stunning example of a very desirable 1952 Mercury. The recent restoration was completed to high standards and the addition of the 420 horsepower Ford V8 gives it all the performance anyone would require. Ready for show with plenty of go!
