Following the success of its first Geneva Watch Auction held earlier this year, Phillips will hold a second edition on 7 November, featuring circa-200 watches to cater to every taste and budget. While the Rolex Submariner reference 5513 that featured in the James Bond thriller Live and Let Die (est. 150,000-250,000 Swiss francs) – complete with buzzsaw bezel and ultra-high magnetic field – is undeniably cool, we must admit the watch that really took our eye was the Rolex Oyster Chronograph ‘Barilotto’, presented in wonderfully oxidised 18k yellow gold and dating back to 1940. It’s estimated to fetch 200,000-400,000 francs.
At a more modest budget, the 1963 Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner (12,000-18,000 francs), complete with desirable ‘underline’ dial and intricate gilt printing, and the 101st of 500 limited-edition Omega Speedmasters in white gold (8,000-12,000 francs) both appeal.
