Seeing the world through olive-tinted lenses

In the 1960s, Leica began producing a range of olive-coloured cameras, initially for military use. Many of these rare models are highly collectable today – and the company has now revealed the M-P Typ 240 ‘Safari’ kit, which consists of an olive-green version of the camera, with a contrasting carrying strap and matching SD & business card holder in brown leather. Interestingly, the limited-edition set – capped at 1,500 units worldwide – actually makes viable financial sense, as it includes a Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH lens. Bought as standard, independent units, the camera and lens would total almost €11,000 – yet the M-P Typ 240 Safari kit is available for €9,990 with the additional accessories.
