The win for the striking silver Ferrari is a big surprise, sending a signal to other concours events that post-War classics should be evaluated. For Pebble Beach jury member and classic car expert Julius Kruta, this decision was only a matter of time. “It was expected that a Ferrari would win Pebble Beach sooner rather than later, given the current market trend. It’s not just the first success of a post-War car, but also a first for a Ferrari.” 

From 'barn-find' to Pebble Beach winner

There are numerous variants of the Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia, but this road-going coupé version is probably the most famous. Only five passenger cars were built; this one was designed by Scaglietti and delivered to the film director Roberto Rossellini. In the 1970s, the car was sold to someone in Paris, where its trail was lost. Later in 1995, the Ferrari was found lying dormant in an underground garage and Jon Shirley took custody of the abandoned classic, overseeing an elaborate restoration. It’s quite a story: from ‘barn-find’ to Pebble Beach victor.
