You think a racing Lotus Elan would be the perfect car on a wet Nordschleife? Wrong. Have a look at how quickly ex-DTM driver Roland Asch, in the Team Classic Driver Ford Fairlane 500, passes the little car

The in-car video is from the recent ADAC 1000km Classic meeting at the world-famous Nordschleife circuit at the Nürburgring. The ex-works (Mercedes and Opel) DTM driver was guesting in the 1964 Fairlane of ‘Fred and Barney’. In the video you can see him wrestling with the 500+bhp saloon, yet seeming to effortlessly pass much faster cars. He’s overtaken by a 1970s Porsche Carrera RS at one point, but steadily reels him in... I won’t spoil the ending.
