Lightweight Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 at H&H’s February Sale

1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 'Lightweight' - one of 17 RHD M471 cars - £180,000 - 220,000

H&H’s first auction of 2010 is almost upon us – 16-17 February at the company’s regular venue, The Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, Derbyshire.

Notable among the entries is a rare chance to buy the ‘ultimate’ enthusiasts’ 911, one of the 200 ‘Lightweight’ (M471 Sport) examples of the legendary Carrera RS 2.7. To make it an even more unusual opportunity, this a right-hand drive model – of which only 17 were originally made. Built in 1973, this Porsche enjoyed some rallying success before being reconfigured as a road car, and was then restored by Autofarm prior to its purchase by the current owner in 1989. And to add the extra element of in-period desirability, the bodywork is painted the correct factory colour of Tangerine. The estimate stands at £180,000 – £220,000.

1966 Maserati Quattroporte - £30,000 - 34,000

Among the other entries to catch our eye were three Jaguars: a 1959 XK150 S 3.4 Litre Roadster (estimate £60,000 – £70,000), a 1968 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Roadster (£26,000 – 28,000) and one of the 19 Jaguar MKII 3.8 saloons modified by John Coombs’ eponymous company. The car is described by H&H as “possibly the last to be converted for fast road/competition use” and it’s aiming to sell for £50,000 – 60,000.

On the Italian front, there’s a 1971 Ferrari Dino 246GT, in the same ownership since 1978, and a former contestant in the Ferrari Maranello Challenge Series. Bids are expected between £58,000 and £65,000. And finally, we were charmed by the thought of the elegant 1966 Maserati Quattroporte, a left-hand drive example for £30,000 to 34,000.
