Description

Estimated Price: £70,000 - £80,000

Having astonished the world with its debut supercar of 1992 - the iconic, Le Mans-winning F1 - McLaren re-established itself at the head of the exclusive '200mph club' with the MP4-12C. Publicly unveiled in September 2009, the mid-engined MP4-12C commenced manufacture at McLaren's new state of the art factory at Woking in mid-2011, just after production of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren model had ceased. Its stylist was Frank Stephenson, who had been recruited from Alfa Romeo Centro Stile following spells with Ferrari and FIAT. Like its F1 and SLR predecessors, the MP4-12C used a carbon fibre MonoCell body tub, albeit one that now took considerably less time to produce thanks to advances in composite manufacturing technology. This time the occupants' two seats were arranged conventionally side by side, unlike the F1's unusual three-abreast layout, which placed the driver in the centre, though the use of dihedral doors maintained a familial link with the F1.

The 12C Spider is a convertible version of the MP4-12C with a retractable hardtop. Because the coupé was designed from the outset with a convertible version in mind, no additional strengthening was needed for the Spider and it weighs only 40kg (88lbs) more than the coupé. McLaren has worked to keep the Spider's top speed 204mph (328km/h) close to the coupé's 207mph (333km/h) and up to 196mph (315km/h) is possible roof down. Meanwhile, the dihedral doors of the coupé are retained.

On offer from a well regarded private Collection, here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive Spider which was registered to the first of just three former keepers on 11th March 2014. This particular example is finished in special order Graphite Grey. Specification includes Meridian sound system, sports exhaust, stealth pack, carbon fibre engine covers, electric heated and memory seats, half black leather/Alcantara interior with Harissa Red stitching, front and rear parking sensors and most importantly, the nose lift.

The history file evidences maintenance receipts and the original service pack complete showing McLaren services at 3,040 miles, 9,020 miles, 11,470 miles, 13,554 miles and then 15,304 miles. The car was left with V Engineering during Covid at 17,600 miles where it received comprehensive service work and the important cylinder head update. In 2024, the car was sent to Harwoods McLaren for inspection and service and was recently fitted with four Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.

Presented to auction with a fresh MOT and a smidge over 18,300 miles, we feel the car offers superb value and we encourage you to come along to our Supercar Fest Sale and get a feel for this fabulous McLaren.
