  • Desirable four-option example
  • Finished in Mark IV Red with white racing stripes

As part of the Ford Motor Company centennial celebration, the company revealed the retro-styled GT. A modern homage to Ford’s racing heritage, the GT celebrated the highly successful GT40 program of the 1960s, which won Le Mans an impressive four consecutive years from 1966 to 1969. Exceedingly popular since its debut, the GT went into production for the 2005 and 2006 model years, during which time only 4,033 examples were built.

In addition to the stunning design, the Ford GT featured impressive performance, the likes of which had not been seen from a production car built in Detroit. Powered by a 5.4-litre DOHC V-8 engine and equipped with a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger, the GT is rated at 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a Ricardo six-speed manual transmission featuring a helical limited-slip differential. This driveline allows the Ford GT to achieve a 205-mph top speed and 0–60 sprint of 3.3 seconds. These extraordinary performance figures put the car in competition with other supercars of the time, such as the Porsche Carrera GT and the Mercedes-McLaren SLR. 2005 would mark the final year for the celebrated Ford GT, with 2,022 examples produced.

Assembled on 27 September 2004, this Ford GT left the factory finished in the stunning shade of Mark IV Red with full white stripes, one of 669 examples produced as such for the 2005 model year. It was desirably equipped as a four-option example, featuring full racing stripes, a McIntosh radio, lightweight BBS wheels, and grey painted brake calipers.

The GT has remained under the care of its original owner since it was delivered and imported to Europe. Sparingly used, the car has traveled roughly 5,812 miles over the past 20 years. Significantly, the engine features a Ford Performance pulley and tune courtesy of the Ford GT Center in Geneva, and the supercharged V-8 now produces 670 horsepower. The GT is accompanied by a certificate from Ford featuring production data, two invoices dated to 2006, and the original summer tyres.

Some 17 years after its introduction, the Ford GT remains an exciting, high-performance homage to Ford’s legendary motorsport history, and a car that many claim to be one of the last great analogue supercars.
