Description
Chassis No. WBSAK050301891220
The BMW M3 emerged as an icon when production commenced in 1986, born out of BMW's endeavor to dominate Group A racing. Explicitly conceived as a homologation special, the BMW Motorsport Division transformed the standard 3-Series into a purpose-built racing machine, developing 5,000 road-legal examples to meet FIA regulations. This initial E30 M3 was characterized by uncompromising modifications-including widened wheel arches, a raked windshield, a reworked trunk profile with a pronounced spoiler, and a high-revving 2.3-liter S14 four-cylinder engine producing 200 horsepower-establishing itself as an instant motorsport benchmark. The model quickly demonstrated its prowess, securing championship victories in the DTM and World Touring Car Championships, and effectively creating the high-performance sports sedan segment.
This superbly presented BMW M3, chassis 301891220, boasts an extensively documented ownership history spanning more than three decades. Beginning life as a road car finished in black and initially registered in Germany, the M3 was first registered in Italy on 21 January 1991 to Enrico Paiusco of Creazzo, Italy, with license plate "VI844110." Later that year, a sales invoice shows that Paiusco sold the car to Maria Polga of Fara Vincentino. By Feburary 1993, the BMW had transferred to Massimiliano Marinelli of Schio. In May 2000, it was sold to Stefano Ciscato of Malo, before being acquired by Dino Dal Cucco of Schio in March 2003. Just two months later in May 2003, the car changed hands again to Planning Off Road di Zanetti Pierluigi e C., and later to Planning Sport Ltd. of Vicenza in May 2004.
In this ownership, it would undergo its comprehensive transformation to Group A rally specification, renewed in its current white and Motorsport tricolor stripe livery with matching white Braid Winrace 17-inch wheels. The interior was also converted to correct Group A specifications with a full Matter roll cage, Mito Racing Technology bucket seats and five-point safety harnesses, Sparco fire extinguisher, Stilo intercom, and FIA-spec fuel cell. The powertrain was upgraded with a six-speed transmission and the engine tuned to run on 102 octane fuel for maximum performance. The car reportedly raced with the Planning Sport team for a number of years until December 2009 when the M3 was sold to Auto Motor Service of Vicenza. In February 2014, the car joined the current devoted caretaker, registered to 749 Boat Service of Bergamo, and later transferred into his private ownership in December 2018.
The car's complete provenance is documented through the Pubblico Registro Automobilistico (PRA), with records extending from its initial registration through ten different Northern Italian owners over its lifetime. The M3 is also accompanied by a CSAI Passaporto Tecnico and a previous HTP CSAI Nazionale. Though expired, these documents would substantially streamline the process of applying for new competition certifications. The car also comes with four spare wheels and additional nose-mounted lights specifically designed for night stages-welcome equipment for any future competition endeavors.
With its documented history and impressive preparation, this BMW M3 represents a compelling opportunity to acquire one of the most important performance cars of the 1980s. As 1980s-era touring and rally cars continue to rise in desirability among enthusiasts and collectors worldwide, this particular M3 offers both investment potential and the unmatched driving experience that made these cars legends in their own time.
