If you were to imagine yourself being a member of the Royal Family, us car-loving folk would likely daydream about what our vehicle of choice would be while attending state visits. The requirements can often be long and oddly specific, but with some opportunities to show a hint of personality here and there. Many would opt for an Aston Martin, a statement regardless of the chosen model, but a brand steeped in a rich 112-year history that celebrates British manufacturing and craftsmanship at its very best. Now, Aston Martin’s famed wings will proudly sit beside the royal crest of the British sovereign, having been awarded a Royal Warrant by Appointment to His Majesty The King.
The granting of a new Royal Warrant follows Aston Martin being honoured for innovation with the King’s Award for Enterprise in 2024. It continues Aston Martin Lagonda’s eight-decade long history with the Royal Family, which dates all the way back to 1954, when Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, took delivery of a three-litre Lagonda. The following year, Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, acquired a DB2/4 from the Aston Martin team that had won the 1955 Monte Carlo rally.
It is however, The King himself who is perhaps the biggest fan of the British marque, his DB6 Volante has become something of a motoring icon for the Royal Family, making its appearance during the wedding of the current Prince and Princess of Wales in 2011. A true car lover at heart, The King has been a member of the Aston Martin Owners Club since 1973, owning his own commissioned V8 Vantage Volante and a mighty Virage Volante, all of which are a certified hit among the Classic Driver office!
