Description

If, in the early 70s, you were looking for a rapid little transport, a Citroën 2 CV AK certainly was not on top of your list. The little utility may have been practical and already possessed some kind of cult status but its performance from the 602 cc 2 cylinder boxer and barely 28 horsepower created little excitement. Things would have been different if the car had been offered with the specification available here. Take a Citroën AMI super chassis, combine it with the coachwork of an AK400, the 1.3 litre 4 cylinder 64 hp engine from a GSA and an X3 5 speed gearbox and you have the perfect wolf in sheep’s clothes. This interesting fusion was performed by a fan in the beginning of the Millennium and, surprise surprise, accepted, approved and registered in the car’s documentation by the authorities from the Baselland Canton. He used a brand-new zinc plated chassis and improved the engine with new pistons, cylinders and an overhauled head before selling his unique “Ute” in 2005. The new owner used his van as a little camper and in the following 30 years covered around 35’000 kilometres with the car. Naturally he made sure that the Citroën was regularly maintained and, at the end of 2015 for example, the fuel tank was overhauled and coated and a new carburettor installed. In February 2016, around 5’000 kilometres ago, the cambelt and tensioner were replaced. Several maintenance receipts are available. In 2018 the AK special was de-registered and spent some time with a dealer of special camping vehicles where it was acquired by the vendor in 2022. He had the car repainted in the current grey matte metallic and had more comfortable seats installed. At the same time, he decorated the Citroën with a surfboard on the roof and a Michelin figure on top of the cabin and thus had the perfect promotional vehicle for his company. Currently, the cool and unique utility is in very good overall condition and will be sold with the most recent MOT from February 2016. For a Swiss buyer the MOT will be renewed.
