Engine No. AR130801005

The Alfa Romeo 1900 C SS was a rare sporting variant of the 1900 series, featuring a short-wheelbase chassis (denoted by "C" for Corto) and Super Sprint specifications ("SS") including its 1,975-cc twin-cam Tipo 1308 engine producing 115 horsepower. The sophisticated five-speed manual transmission incorporated synchronized gears for second through fourth, with ample stopping power coming from air-cooled self-adjusting brakes. This model proved its capabilities in significant racing events of the period, including the challenging Targa Florio, Stella Alpina, and Mille Miglia. Of the more than 21,000 1900-series Alfa Romeos manufactured across various configurations, just 854 examples were built to the premium 1900 C SS specification.

From 1950 through 1959, coachbuilding artisans created extraordinary designs on the 1900 platform despite challenging market conditions, attracting attention from Touring, Ghia, and Vignale among others. Their creativity manifested across various body styles, from elegant coupes to cabriolets, lightweight competition cars, and everyday family saloons. Swiss coachbuilder Carrosserie Worblaufen-a long-time Alfa Romeo collaborator beginning with the 8C chassis in the 1930s-also produced bodies post-war for the 1900, incorporating design elements reminiscent of Touring and Pininfarina while maintaining its distinctive understated Swiss elegance.

This spectacular Alfa Romeo 1900 C SS, chassis 01910, was reportedly delivered to Worblaufen, Switzerland, on 13 January 1955 where it received its remarkable Cabriolet bodywork along with only two other 1900 chassis. In 2019, the car is said to have undergone a complete restoration in Italy to its current blue over red leather specification, complete with a dark blue soft top and chromed wire wheels with two-ear knock offs. Inside, a blue and ivory two-spoke steering wheel frames beautiful Veglia instrumentation including a 220-km/h speedometer showing 7,666 kilometers at the time of cataloging. The carpeted trunk carries a two-piece set of brown leather luggage, a tool pouch, and a spare.

In 2022, the exceptional quality of the restoration was showcased by Lisa and Eric Schigiel at the 71st Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in the Postwar Touring Open class. The following year, the Alfa claimed top honors at the Cavallino Classic & Sports Sunday held at Mar-a-Lago, winning Best in Class. Today, this distinguished coachbuilt Super Sprint is prepared for its future custodian. The rare Alfa is eligible for numerous prominent automotive gatherings and concours events, including participation in the historic Mille Miglia Storica, offering an excellent opportunity to showcase its exquisite Worblaufen coachwork and SS performance capabilities.
