Description

Chassis No. 3N573122

Engine No. 3NE573204

The Chrysler 300 "letter series" cars, particularly the 1955-57 models, are seen as precursors to the muscle car, blending high performance with full-sized luxury. Chrysler's racing legacy, dating back to the 1920s, culminated in the 1955 C-300 and 1956 300B, which found success in Stock Car racing. The 1957 300 C, Motor Trend's Car of the Year, with its bold "Forward Look" design featuring a wide trapezoidal grille, dual headlights, and sweeping tailfins, introduced a new 392-cubic-inch Hemi V8 engine with dual four-barrel carburetors produced by Mercury Marine with high nickel castings, solid lifters, and an adjustable camshaft, rated at a remarkable 375 horsepower. This helped the letter car retain its crown as the fastest and most powerful production car in the country and the Dayton measured miles stock car record holder. It also featured a cooling duct for the front brakes and carefully positioned rear leaf springs for improved handling. The 300 C delivered impressive performance, reaching 134 miles per hour on the sands of at the Daytona Flying Mile and zero to 60 in under eight seconds. With its combination of power, style, and exclusivity, only 2,402 units were produced for 1957, including 484 convertibles priced at a hefty $5,359.

According to Chrysler 300 Club International documentation, this 300 C was produced on 15 July 1957 and sold new through H.W. Hunter Dodge/Chrysler of Lancaster, California. Finished in Cloud White with a Tan leather interior, the car featured a Black convertible soft top and was outfitted with power-operated Solex-tinted windows, Music Master radio, six-way power front seats, Goodyear Blue Streak tires, power steering, power windows, and a heater.

While the early history of this Chrysler is unknown, the 300 Club documents that the car was purchased in early 2002 by Jim Miller of West Palm Beach, Florida, a noted collector of rare, mid-century American classics. From there, the car received a comprehensive and detailed restoration by Bob Lorkowski's L'Cars Automotive Specialties of Bruce, Wisconsin to its factory specification in the mid-2010s. Today, the restoration presents beautifully, standing as a testament to the quality of the restoration and care this rare 300 C Convertible has received since. Chrysler's post-war letter cars are world-famous for their outright power and luxurious appointments. Representing the pinnacle of these from 1957, this Cloud White 300 C Convertible offers rarity, power, a high-quality restoration that is still fresh, collectability and wind-in-the-hair excitement in equal measure.
