RUF Automobile launched the RCT, short for RUF Carrera Turbo, in 1992. Based on the type 964 Porsche 911, it was initially built around the coupe’s narrow body style—favored over the wider 911 Turbo for its superior aerodynamics—and featured an adjustable suspension among other enhancements. A single turbocharger bumped output of the familiar 3.6-liter flat-six by around 118 horsepower to about 365 horsepower.
The RCT has proven so popular that RUF still offers an enhanced “Evo” variant through conversions of existing type 964 coupes, which retain their WP0-prefix Porsche chassis numbers, rather than being assigned RUF-specific W09-prefix chassis numbers. Dubbed the RCT Evo Restomod, it benefits from numerous engineering improvements developed in the decades since the original RCT’s debut, most notably a stiffer chassis and an even more powerful 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six, sending an impressive 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transaxle.
This RCT Evo Restomod is built around a narrow-body 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe previously registered in Stuttgart, Germany, and was completed in March 2023, according to its official certificate of manufacture and accompanying invoice. The customized bodywork is beautifully finished in Stone Grey and features slightly wider rear fenders, patterned after those of RUF’s legendary CTR “Yellowbird.” It benefits from improved aerodynamics and aesthetic appeal thanks to a slick top, devoid of sunroof and rain gutters, and the addition of resculpted carbon fiber bumpers. The rear hood is also carbon fiber and the wheels are RUF’s characteristic 18-inch forged aluminum five-spoke design.
A roll-cage expertly integrated within the Classic Brown and Black leather interior stiffens the chassis for improved driving dynamics, while “Lollipop” carbon fiber sport bucket seats—so named for their distinctive headrest shape—help reduce weight and lend a fittingly retro look. Woven leather on the dashboard, seat inserts, and custom rear parcel shelf adds subtle texture and sophistication, as do the diamond-stitched door cards and contrasting Alcantara on the gear shifter, door pulls, and RUF-designed steering wheel.
Having been driven only 2,008 miles since its conversion in 2023, this RCT Evo Restomod remains in showroom condition throughout and is ready to be enjoyed at local Porsche club and other gatherings or, better yet, at track days, where its enhanced performance and handling can truly be explored.
