Description
The Jaguar E type was introduced on the 15th of March 1961 at the Geneva salon as a street legal successor to the most successful Jaguar D type racing car. The major attraction in the E-type lay in its performance, its charisma and, not least, its affordable price. The 3.8 litre inline 6-cylinder provided 269 horsepower which enabled the car to reach a top speed of 241 km/h bringing it to a same level as most much more expensive cars from Ferrari and Maserati. This early example was completed in December 1961 and delivered to New York in January 1962. In July 1962, the roadster was registered to its first owner in Beverly Hills CA. Little is known about the car until 2009. During that time the car was certainly restored once in the USA and repainted from the original "Opalescent Gunmetal" with a red leather interior to the current combination of red with black leather. The matching numbers engine and the original Moss gearbox were overhauled in 2010. A copy of the “Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate” is available. In 2011 the car was imported into Switzerland and, after extensive work MOT’d in Zurich in March 2012. In 2020, the three SU carburettors were overhauled and the brakes equipped with EBC brake pads. Recently this fabulous roadster received a new aluminium high performance radiator and the car now presents itself in very good condition and drives fabulously. The most recent Veteran MOT was completed in January 2020.
