Ferrari means business - Exhibit A
Fast, agile, and enough romance to leave you utterly breathless, that’s what it takes to be a Ferrari. While some models are born to be more subdued and elegant, Ferrari means business when they add specific words to a model designation, and while the 812 already had a cool name, ‘Superfast’, 812 Competizione A just has a better ring to it, doesn’t it?
Of course, this incredibly limited variant, built to celebrate the end of the brand’s V12 motor, is far, far more than just a cool name. Its styling, is vicious, angular, and menacing, housing an uprated version of the regular 812’s V12, now producing an outrageous 819 horsepower, giving it a driving experience truly unlike any other in the line up. This power and unique styling is enhanced even further with examples such as this one, sporting the Aperta look, allowing its occupants to hear that symphony scream that little bit louder!
Modern Creation Munich
These days, it’s pretty common to see the fashion and automotive worlds collide to create incredible clothing collections or one-off cars to be used as the ultimate marketing tool, but we may have just stumbled upon the best there ever was.
Back in 1981, this Suzuki LJ 80 was snapped up by MCM themselves, who were keen to raise some further awareness of their luxury goods with the ultimate head-turner. The renowned fashion house, known as Modern Creation Munich was formed in 1977, and has gone on to become a staple in fashion, with a logo that is instantly recognisable. That logo has remained unchanged for decades, and was used as the pattern within this customised Suzuki. The car had been restored back to its former glory some years ago, but careful consideration was taken to preserve this unique off-roaders special features, such as the monogrammed leather roof and seat inserts. For the fashion lovers amongst us, this is one to add to the collection!
Le French Sleeper
There’s nothing cooler than a ‘sleeper’. A car that looks completely unimposing from the outside, but hidden under the bonnet sits a ferocious motor ready to dominate whoever decides to pull alongside them at a set of traffic lights. Cars like the Lotus Carlton and Volvo 850 T5-R are prime examples, and it seems the all-but-forgotten Renault Safrane might be the ultimate sleeper.
Launched in 1993, this top-of-the-range model may have looked like your typical smart saloon from the outside, but boasted an impressive 268 horsepower from a 3.0-litre 12-valve twin-turbo engine, which was developed in collaboration with Hartge, a company well versed in modifying BMWs and Opels. Equipped with all-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission, it combines elegance with performance, but only 806 units were produced, making it one of the rarest Renault models of this era. As priced of super saloons continue to rocket, we think this speedy Safrane is a true collector’s item!
A touch of Pink
We’ve said it before, and we’ll most likely say it again for years to come: there is truly nothing else on the road quite like a Meyers Manx. Becoming the hottest commodity in Southern California during the 1960s, it’s thought that out of the 7,000 buggies that were produced by Meyers Manx, perhaps as many of 250.000 look-alikes have been created by others, making it one of the most copied cars in history.
The reason for this mass appeal is down to the ethos behind the buggy. Driving one is soul-freeing and intoxicatingly fun, all while bringing a smile to those onlookers in their plain-Jane machines. This example is all about expression, finished in a stunning candy flake metallic pink with white leather throughout the cabin.
Thirty Metallic
It takes a lot to really stand out these days. As more and more hypercars appear on the market, their outrageous looks are often softened considerably once the engine start button has been pressed, where so many now rely on hybrid systems for a silent getaway.
This could be handy to some, but for those looking to stand out and turn heads, it’s often easier to go old-school, and nothing will cause a stir quite like an old Lamborghini. This wonderful Diablo SE30 marked the brand’s 30th anniversary, and is one of the most exclusive models in the Diablo series, with only 150 units produced worldwide. Finished in the aptly names “Thirty Metallic”, this exclusive colour brings even more drama to this oh-so stylish supercar. The question is, are you ready for the attention?
