When AMG sought to enhance the SLS to create the Black Series, rather than follow the conventional path by making the standard 571 PS model more aggressive, engineers instead worked backwards. They took inspiration from the GT3 race car and allowed its technology to trickle down. Accordingly, 70 kilograms was stripped out and the red line of the 6.2-litre V-8 raised to 8,000 rpm to in turn find an additional 60 PS. This created what was, at the time, the most powerful naturally aspirated eight-cylinder production car engine in the world.

The example offered here was originally delivered on 4 February 2013. Instead of making its way immediately into private ownership, this car was retained by Daimler AG. Supplied as a demonstrator vehicle, it was accordingly very generously specified to entice prospective customers. Rather than the more common Solarbeam Yellow, this car was finished in the rare shade of Magno Alanite Grey. It is thought that of the 350 total SLS AMG Black Series cars produced, fewer than 10 examples were configured in this colour. Further flourishes include the liberal use of carbon fibre, with this car gaining a composite engine cover, high gloss carbon fibre exterior pieces, and interior trim to complement the black Alcantara upholstery.

Two months before the Black Series was finally acquired by its sole Böblingen-based private owner in April 2015, service records show it had covered 13,425 kilometres. The car has been used sparingly thereafter, with the odometer displaying only 14,996 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. The SLS gained its most recent TÜV certificate in July earlier this year.

This highly optioned example of the thumping SLS AMG Black Series offers bidders the chance to acquire one of Affalterbach's very finest creations.
