Story

The Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 represents one of the most iconic chapters in Lamborghini’s storied history of supercars.

Launched in 2006, the LP640 was an evolution of the original Murciélago, which debuted in 2001.

It symbolized the cutting-edge of Lamborghini’s engineering and design philosophy during the 2000s.

The Murciélago was introduced as Lamborghini’s flagship model in 2001, succeeding the legendary Diablo.

It was the first new car developed under Lamborghini's ownership by Audi, which had taken over the brand in 1998.

The car’s name, like most Lamborghini models, was inspired by bullfighting.

"Murciélago" was a famous Spanish fighting bull that survived 24 sword strokes in a battle in 1879, reflecting the car's strength, endurance, and intensity.

In 2006, Lamborghini unveiled the Murciélago LP640, an upgraded version with more power, better handling, and refined styling.

The "LP" in the name stands for "Longitudinale Posteriore," which refers to the engine's longitudinal, rear-mounted position, a traditional layout for Lamborghini’s V12 supercars.

The number "640" denoted its increased horsepower, up from 580 hp in the standard Murciélago.
