Ostensibly a heavily revised version of the standard V8, the Series 2 took on the mysterious sounding moniker “Oscar India”, a phonetic internal code name for the car which abbreviated its rather humble meaning of “October Introduction”, a nod to the car’s intended launch date in 1978. Improvement over earlier cars came from a standardised engine and interior for the entire contemporary Aston Martin range—Vantage, V8, and Lagonda—bringing improvements in luxury, refinement, and performance across the range.
Exterior alterations from the standard V8 included an integral rear spoiler, a closed bonnet bulge, a blanked off front grille, and Vantage badging, while inside vinyl on the dashboard was replaced with leather, and the wheels, for post-1983 cars at least, were replaced by handsome BBS cross lace alloy wheels. It was powered by a 5,340-cc alloy quad-cam V-8 engine with four Weber downdraft carburettors, and power figures though not quoted at the time are now believed to have been around 375 brake horsepower, which was sent to the rear wheels via a ZF five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
This example was delivered new in January 1985 by Aston Martin Limited, in its current hue of Warwick Blue over a Magnolia hide trimmed interior with dark blue piping and matching beige carpets with blue piping. The car was delivered new to the United Kingdom, but was destined for Cyprus. Features include a walnut dashboard and door card accents, a heated rear screen, a lockable glove box, electric windows, and a Kienzle analogue clock.
Please note, this vehicle will require recommissioning prior to road use.
This example is now offered from storage after years of ownership in a private collection of vehicles based in the Middle East, complete with its matching-numbers engine. Accompanied by a copy of its factory build sheet, tool kit, and spare wheel, this attractive ‘Oscar India’ presents well and in a particularly desirable specification.
