In 1994, the FIA introduced the GT1 race class for Le Mans, marking the beginning of one of the most iconic racing periods in the sport’s history. While 15 of the world’s best manufactures threw their fire-spitting, four-wheeled hats into the ring, there was one that many remember as a standout. Racing is one thing, but the mandatory homologation road cars were an entirely new challenge, and one that Tuthill was eager to explore, creating the staggering GT ONE.
Just 22 production examples will be built, and with each vehicle requiring an incredible 3,500 build-hours of meticulous construction to create each client’s personalised car, the result is a true work of automotive art. Its sleek and yet powerful styling and aesthetics were designed by California-based designer Florian Flatau. The GT ONE features a full carbon fibre body and bespoke parts aplenty, while being powered by a 4.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine; available in both naturally aspirated and forced induction versions. Whichever you choose, you’ll be in for one heck of a thrill ride, with the naturally aspirated engine option producing in excess of 500 horsepower, inspired by their high-revving 911K engine, while the forced induction offering will produce over 600 horsepower!
Just like the engine choices, Tuthill are also allowing their eager clients a choice of transmissions; a 7-speed dual-clutch option, as fitted to the car currently on show at The Quail, or a manual that promises to be a truly unforgettable driving experience. Once you’ve settled on an engine and transmission, the GT ONE is equipped with twin wishbone front and rear suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and bespoke brake callipers, allowing the car to weigh a mere 1,200 kg.
As you would expect from one of the world’s best in their field, Tuthill have thrown all of their expertise at the GT ONE, using cutting-edge engineering and exceptional materials throughout the car. The underbody and surface aero performance has been optimised through CFD analysis to enhance performance, as well as safety. Within the bodywork is an FIA based roll over protection system and full carbon fibre doors with side impact bars. For those looking for even more out of this beast, Tuthill have teased the idea of an optional aero package being developed for track use.
Freshly revealed to a roaring crowd at Monterey Car Week, Tuthill have once again pushed the boundaries of automotive excellence, combining decades of real-world driving experience with innovative engineering to create one truly special celebration of speed!
