Description

Alfa Romeo presented the 1300 Junior Zagato at the 1969 Turin Motor Show. The model was targeted at relatively affluent young people who preferred stylish and sporty cars. It utilised production parts from the Alfa Romeo 105 series, sharing floorpan, drivetrain, etc.

The original styling, designed by Ercole Spada, radiated a progressive elegance, with a lightweight space frame encasing a well-proven suspension. The body has low overhangs and a particularly distinctive cam-style incised tail.
Despite the low roofline, the glass surface is wide and stress-free to drive. The exterior design is unadorned with chrome and badges, so much so that fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent used the Junior Z in his adverts.
The interior is designed exclusively for the Junior Z, including the dash panel, centre console and seats. Despite its avant-garde looks, the car is surprisingly practical, with ample luggage space.

The Mello Yellow Jr. Zagato shown here was registered in Japan in 2015. Its VIN number is #1014, the last of the 1300 Jr. Zagato's being #1110, so you can see that this is the last lot.
The engine was converted to 2000cc (AR00512) before coming to Japan, but the 2000cc engine is probably better suited to modern traffic situation.
The body has been repainted in the same colour as the original and the interior has been restored.
It has a one-off stainless steel muffler and a rather wild sound. The car is a mood-maker, brightening up the atmosphere just by being in your garage.
