This unpolished platinum example from 2006, the final year of the 3940, perfectly illustrates why the reference is so coveted and timeless.

It is understated both in its styling and size, with the platinum reference carrying a larger weight than examples in other metals. With its modest 36 mm size, and a slim case matched by a slim automatic movement, it smoothly fits the wrist.

The dial has three registers, with the various functions neatly balanced out.
The sub-dial at three o'clock shows the leap-year counter and the months (in English), in a slightly recessed sub-register, giving depth to the otherwise lightly brushed, silver dial. In a similar fashion, the months and day/night indicators are placed at nine o'clock. The stunning silver moon-phase is placed at six o'clock, with the days of the month around it. The silver Dauphine hands gives a great vintage spirit on the dial.

This example has a solid case back, revealing the fantastic hand-finishing, the Geneva coat of arms and stripes, as well as the off-center, 22k gold micro-rotor.
The ultra-thin micro rotor self-winding movement has been in use by Patek since the 1970s, and continue to beat at the heart of their modern perpetual lines.

Cette pièce est sobre tant dans son style que dans sa taille, avec la référence en platine ayant un poids plus important que les exemplaires en autres métaux. Avec sa taille modeste de 36 mm et son boîtier ultra plat assorti à un mouvement automatique ultra plat, il s'adapte parfaitement au poignet.

Le cadran comporte trois registres, avec les différentes fonctions équilibrées de manière harmonieuse. Le sous-cadran à trois heures indique l'année bissextile et les mois (en anglais), dans un sous-registre légèrement en retrait, donnant de la profondeur au cadran argenté légèrement brossé. De la même manière, les indicateurs de mois et de jour/nuit sont placés à neuf heures. La magnifique phase de lune argentée est située à six heures, avec les jours du mois autour. Les aiguilles Dauphine argentées apportent un grand esprit vintage au cadran.

Cet exemplaire a un fond de boîtier plein en platine, révélant la fantastique finition à la main, le poinçon de Genève et les bandes, ainsi que le micro-rotor en or 22k décentré. Le mouvement à remontage automatique ultra-fin avec micro-rotor est utilisé par Patek depuis les années 1970 et continue de battre au cœur de leurs lignes perpétuelles modernes.
