Introduced in 2004 as the successor to the 360 Modena, the Pininfarina-styled Ferrari 430 quickly proved itself superior to its predecessor. Three years later, the 430 Scuderia was unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show by Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher, who was said to have been heavily involved in the development of the Scuderia at every stage. Inspired by the F430 Challenge race car, the Scuderia was lighter and more track-focused than the 430.

The mid-mounted 4.3-liter V-8 features an improved intake manifold, a flat-plane crankshaft, two overhead camshafts per cylinder bank, four valves per cylinder, a higher-compression ratio of 11.9:1, and a redesigned exhaust to allow for increased flow. Output was factory rated at 503 bhp and 347 lbs./ft. of torque – 20 bhp and four lbs./ft. over the standard 430. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a six-speed F1 automated transaxle, recalibrated using Ferrari’s Superfast 2 software, and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. Ferrari’s latest traction control system, F1-Trac, is adjusted via a control on the three-spoke manettino (little lever) steering wheel.

Horsepower was not the sole objective in designing the Scuderia. The most astonishing feature was a roughly 220-pound reduction in weight. To achieve this, engineers utilized carbon fiber throughout the vehicle, fitted a Lexan rear window, and removed all sound-deadening material. Carbon fiber wing mirrors, larger air intakes, as well as a redesigned rear spoiler and diffuser provided the Scuderia with more aggressive downforce-producing bodywork. Weight reduction extends to the cockpit as well, with diamond-plate aluminum footwells, and carbon fiber door panels, dashboard, and central tunnel. The newly designed carbon-framed seats were upholstered in 3D technical fabric and Alcantara. Instrumentation includes a central, 8,500 rpm redline tachometer, a 220 mph speedometer, as well as coolant temperature, oil temperature, and oil pressure gauges. Amenities were limited to power windows and locks, climate control, and a factory-branded sound system with navigation.

The increased horsepower and reduced weight of the Scuderia translated into a 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 198 mph. When taken around Ferrari’s Fiorano Circuit, the Scuderia proved nearly two seconds faster than the standard 430. This Ferrari 430 Scuderia was delivered new to Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo in 2008, finished in Nero Daytona (Daytona Black) with optional dual silver racing stripes. It sits on 19" gray finished Scuderia alloy wheels with factory-finished red brake calipers. The Scuderia is accompanied by its tool kit and window sticker, and a fire extinguisher has also been mounted ahead of the passenger seat. Given its limited production, and less than 4,000 miles logged, this sleek 430 Scuderia represents an excellent opportunity for those who enjoy a magnificently engineered, track-focused Ferrari.
