Description
This extraordinary 1956 Beetle is a desirable, early example featuring the muchloved oval-window design. The Volkswagen was the subject of a concours-quality restoration by noted California-based Volkswagen specialists Wagenmasters completed in 2024. As a fantastic basis for restoration, it required very little metalwork and was refinished in its gorgeous original color of Stratos Silver, which has a distinctive blue tint. The upholstery was redone in a special-order German cloth fabric called Pünktchen Blau (blue with small dots), complete with ivory piping.
The Volkswagen received an extensive mechanical restoration as well, including rebuilds of its gearbox, suspension, brakes, and ancillary components. The engine block was machined and cut for new bearings, pistons, crank and cam, and a vintage Bosch 010 distributor was added for increased performance.
The Beetle also features an impressive list of rare period accessories, including a Hella spotlight, a Motorola Big M radio with matching speaker, Perohaus seven-day, manual-wind clock, suitcase, Taylor compass, and even a rarely seen Hertella Paluxette, six-volt, dash-mounted coffee maker – truly a sight to behold.
This Beetle’s exquisite restoration, array of over 30 period accessories, and early build date makes this special Volkswagen a truly remarkable find.
