Description
-Custom Blue paint with Race Livery over Black vinyl interior and Black carpet. Later 1973 327 cubic inch engine and Muncie M-22 4-Speed transmission. Recently completed full restoration with a documented race history.
Under the hood, a 350ci Rochester Fuel Injected "fuelie" engine has been meticulously restored. Engine components consist of original period rods and pistons, Speedwin ported, polished and blueprinted heads, Schiefer clutch and flywheel, Lakewood bellhousing, Kustom Headers and side pipes, 1969 M-22 Muncie 4-Speed Transmission with Hurst shifter, 1969 4:11 Posi-Traction rear end, complete heavy duty suspension set-up, and Aeroquip lines.
Inside a low back fixed bucket seat and race harnesses replace the factory seat, which remains in place on the passenger side. The original replacement three spoke chrome and rubber rimmed racing steering wheel remains and frames a series of updated Stewart Warner gauges. Center toggle switches in the center stack on the dash control all functions, such as the ignition, push button start button (no key needed or included), cooling fan, headlights, turn signals, fuel pump, horn and wipers (all which function correctly). The fuse panel has also been relocated to the lower portion of the stack for accessibility. A period built roll bar is still in place behind the occupants. New carpets, door panels and headliner were installed during the restoration.
Owned and raced in period by Billy Fortune in numerous events in the Tri-State area, most notably the North Atlantic Road Racing Championship (NARRC), where it won the last race of the season at Bridgehampton Racetrack on Long Island NY in 1972 and thus, secured him the series championship. Shortly after the season Billy Fulton tragically passed away and the Corvette was stored in the family garage until 2015 when it was sold and the restoration process began. Restored by well-known Corvette specialists at Vette Dreams in West Babylon NY, everything that was original to the car was disassembled, inspected, cleaned and put back together, attempting to keep the car as original as possible. Wear items such as rod and piston bearings, piston rings, seals, gaskets and bolts were all replaced. The body was removed from the chassis and both were stripped down, refinished and new rubber was installed wherever it was needed or existed. The original steel wheels were refinished and new tires installed.
Now fully restored and serviced, this Corvette race car is truly a piece of Corvette race history. It is ready for a new home and a welcomed addition to both the concours lawn as well as, race circuits around the world and also for competition or road rallies. The Corvette comes with copies of newspaper articles, race schedules, photos of the car racing in period and restoration documentation.
