Description

In the mid 1960’s, Chevrolet faced a challenge. Ford’s Mustang was snatching valuable market share from General Motors pockets. They needed a car to compete, they needed a muscle car. Something that would draw the attention of not only the elder enthusiast, but the youngster too.

Built on GM’s F-Body platform, but sharing parts from the pre-existing Nova, the Camaro debuted in September of 1966, available as a Coupe or Convertible. This example being a 1967 Convertible.

Externally, the Camaro has had a few tasteful upgrades, the paintwork is a bright shade of Bolero Red, with a black stripe completing the front end. The paint work is in great shape, with only some minor marks.

There is a whole host of badges and brightwork that adorn the body work. From wheel arch trims to lower sill mouldings, to the all-important Camaro name plates and 327 badging on the front wings. Everything is in order and accentuates the paint work nicely. The roof is black to match the bonnet stripe and is also in great condition.

The wheels are 17” Crager 5-spoke items, fully polished and in excellent condition. A classic style wheel but enlarged to offer a modern muscle look. The rears are wrapped in Dunlop tyres, and the fronts Radar, both sets with plenty of life left.

In the cabin you’re greeted with a continuation of the black and red theme. Black and Red bucket seats are paired with a black carpet set with red finishings and a similar theme on the door cards. There are no rips or tears, and the interior is vastly free from any wear.

The gauges are all in working order and are mounted behind a wood-rimmed slotted steering wheel. They display what is a potentially optimistic 200 mph range and an indicated mileage of just 72,000 miles.

Under the bonnet, is where the party really starts. It’s a small-block Chevy, but it has been granted some desirable upgrades. First off, the 327ci engine has been fitted with a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy camshaft, 1.52:1 roller rockers and aluminium cylinder heads. To make use of these upgraded parts, an 600CFM Edelbrock Performer Carburettor is fitted, alongside a Performer intake manifold.

To keep the engine in time, a DEI Summit Racing distributor and to ensure maximum airflow in and out a Edelbrock air filter set up and Hedman Long tube Headers. The whole package delivers its power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, and thanks to some upgraded rear leaf springs and shackles, it's able to put that power to the tarmac.

The car comes with an extensive collection of invoices, covering miniscule parts like clips and fasteners right up to more critical components like the aluminium cylinder heads and other engine upgrade parts. These invoices help to tell a story of a car that has been loved, cared for and enjoyed.

The Camaro is an automotive legend, the name transcends time. The most modern examples have been seen attacking corners at circuits like Laguna Seca and Virginia International Raceway, but these original Camaros offer a character and charm that is second to none.

From street to strip, the Camaro is a muscle car for the people. It will make people smile, and it will make kids point, and we probably need a bit more of that in the world! If you’re looking to add some V8 burble into your life, this could be the perfect opportunity…

As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
