EXTERIOR
Everyday performance has always been the appeal of the Golf GTI and this Clubsport S is no exception; finished in its trademark shade of Tornado Red which has received a full ceramic coating less than 300 miles ago, the only real giveaway to the track origins of the Clubsport lie in the extended rear spoiler and branded decals just above the side skirts. Silver alloys contrast perfectly with the paint, as does the gloss black grille and vents at the front with the classic red stripe still present as a styling cue from the original mark one car. Subtle ‘GTI’ badging in red and the chrome rear exhaust with its two single mounted pipes denote this as the halo car of the Golf range.

Presenting as if garaged all of its life, this Golf is in exceptional condition, with no discernible blemishes to report other than a dusting and some carefully touched in stone chips commiserate with its mileage.

INTERIOR
Solid build quality, exceptional ergonomics and clean design are hallmarks of the VW Golf interior in this case focused by a lightweight ‘Clubsport’ twist. The unmarked bucket seats feature a red stitch and are wonderfully supportive finished in a combination of patterned leather, alcantara and fabric with the GTI trade mark insert proudly displayed. The steering wheel features Alcantara, again with red stitching and centre mark, whilst the classic golf ball design gear knob is a throwback to the iconic original. The commitment to this lightweight study is illustrated by a rear brace bar and race designed netting (for wheels or helmet etc) in place of the rear seats; an immaculate space free of marks or wear.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
With 306bhp the Clubsport S becomes the most powerful factory made Golf ever, as well as the fastest. It uses the same EA888 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo unit that powers all modern high performance Golfs, tweaked here to deliver its peak output between 5800-6500rpm with 280lb ft of torque available from 1850-5700rpm. Performance is swift but it is the broad powerband that makes the Clubsport feel so accessible.

The only transmission option is six-speed manual, carried over unchanged from the Clubsport. Drive is sent to the front wheels and apportioned by a clever electronically controlled limited slip differential.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The Clubsport S features the 19 inch Pretoria alloy wheels with a silver finish. These present in excellent condition wrapped in the renowned Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S’ on all four corners.

Brakes have minimal wear with plenty of pad and disc material clamped by huge Clubsport S marked red calipers that compliment the subtle red highlights throughout.
