Description

Like so many of the 7’200 De Tomaso Pantera built, this sportster was delivered originally in the USA and registered there on the 2nd of October 1971. Following American fashion of model year changes normally taking place in September of the previous year we're actually looking at a 1972 example. The history of the car in the USA is not known. In September 1989, the Pantera was imported into Switzerland from Florida and driven for some time on dealer plates. The first Swiss MOT was completed in January 1996. At the end of 2002 the De Tomaso was integrated into the private collection of a sports car mechanic near Bern and eventually resold again in 2014. The then owner had the headlining replaced at the end of the year and the interior refreshed. At the beginning of 2017, the American thoroughbred with Italian styling was taken over by its last owner who commissioned a partial restoration of the coachwork and had a major service performed as well including fitment of four new Michelin tyres. After a short time, he realised that the engine wouldn't deliver the performance he expected as well as running hot, so, in June 2017 he had a high performance radiator and two additional ventilators installed. In 2019 the air conditioning system received a new compressor and was converted to the actual R134A cooling medium. At the beginning of 2023, the owner decided to restructure his collection and to part with the Pantera. Unfortunately, during transfer to a new owner, the car suffered a major engine damage which resulted in a complete overhaul by specialists from Eggenberger Motorenbau AG. There, a new engine was built up starting with a new Ford 351 engine block. A new crankshaft, new con rods, new forged pistons as well as a new camshaft were installed. The cylinder heads were overhauled with new valves and new valve springs. Needless to say, all main bearings, oil pump and pushrods were replaced with new parts. Since the revision only around 500 kilometres have been covered. Now the De Tomaso presents itself in technically very good condition with the coachwork and interior in good condition showing light signs of use. The most recent Veteran MOT was completed in May 2024 and this stunning powerpack may be registered immediately.
