Description
Royal Enfield from Redditch in England is the oldest still active motorbike manufacturer in the world and started its operation in 1901. Their slogan “Made like a gun” became legendary and with the same precision the bikes were assembled. The J2 offered here with its 500cc single was most probably delivered through Jan S.A. in Lausanne, then the general agent for Switzerland, and first registered in July 1949. According to the information available, the bike has been restored around the Millennium and then stored in a collection. At the end of 2009 the lovely Brit was acquired by the vendor who used the J2 for occasional outings and covered around 2’500 kilometres in the following years. To cure a steady and no doubt annoying oil loss at the primary drive, the bike was converted to a dry clutch in 2016 and in 2017 received a new Amal carburettor. For health reasons the Royal Enfield was only driven to pass its MOT inspection since 2019 and spent most of its time stored in a garage. The bike is in good to very good condition but because of the longer period of inactivity, a specialist recommissioning as well as an oil change and a further magneto revision should be scheduled. The last Veteran MOT was completed in August 2023.
