The Ferrari 250 GTO is one of the most sought-after and recognisable motor cars in the world. As the ultimate development of Ferrari‘s long line of 250 GT cars, following on from the Tour de France and short-wheelbase models, the GTO is a seminal design representing the apogee of the front engine GT car. In short, it is a legend in its own right.
After its debut in 1962, it carried on from where the short-wheelbase left off; its competition successes during 1962, 1963 and into 1964 are almost too numerous to list, the highlights being GT class wins in all of the classic long distance events such as the Sebring 12 Hours, Targa Florio, Nurburgring 1000km, Le Mans 24 Hours, as well as outright victories in the Tourist Trophy at Goodwood and in the Tour de France.

This is the 6th and final RGS-built car circa 1954. The chassis started life as a tubular-type, fitted with an Austin-Healey power unit. Peter acquired a Jaguar C-type specification engine for this project but this unit was lost in the South Stoke workshop fire. Modified with pre-war type side rails by Peter Gregory with a view to creating an early-style, Jaguar-powered special. Offered as a rolling chassis with steering box, with a complete (less starter motor) Jaguar XK engine. Here is a blank canvas to build your own dream car – whatever the outcome; it is guaranteed to be unique!

ometime in the early 1980s, Peter Gregory met up with Ryan Hodges – a fellow Atalanta enthusiast. Hodges owned two other Atalantas and decided to make the spares he had about him into a single seater, much in the style of an ERA. Originally fitting the device with a supercharged BMW 328 engine, it proved an effective combination and in that guise came 2nd to an ERA at Shelsey Walsh in 1976 with a most respectable time of 38.9 seconds. The Atalanta racer was subsequently fitted (after a monumental blow-up) with a BMW 315 engine and finally with an AC power unit. It was in the latter guise when the deal was struck with Peter Gregory. (A good reference to the car in this guise is on pages 26-27 of ‘The Enthusiast’s Guide to Vintage Specials by John Bateman). Sadly a fire at Peter’s South Stoke workshops stalled the proje

From 1934 through 1960 the Offenhauser engine dominated American open wheel racing, winning the Indianapolis 500 24 times. By then, the company had already been sold, immediately after World War II, to Meyer-Drake, who continued to build race engines. From 1950 through 1960, Offenhauser-powered cars won the Indy 500 and achieved all three podium positions, winning the pole position in 10 of the 11 years.
Bought by Peter Gregory from the Joe Gemsa Collection in the USA for use in the Atalanta single seater project and displayed by Gemsa as a showpiece, this Indy race engine displays several AAA certification stamps on the cylinder head, supporting the theory that this unit was much used at Indy in period. This engine, despite its capacity of 4,485cc relies on only four cylinders; however, each cylinder has four valves, twin overhead camshafts, with an estimated potential of
