William A. Motta (1934-2002) was an internationally recognized automotive artist who served as the art director for Road & Track magazine for a portion of his 40-year tenure with the landmark periodical. A graduate of ArtCenter College of Design in Southern California, hundreds of Motta's paintings are cherished in collections throughout the world for their exciting and distinctive style.This painting, a dramatic still life, cleverly features a Ferrari 156 F1 "Sharknose" Formula 1 race car, with its cockpit reflected in the ceramic bowl above. Among his final works, Phil's Great Ride was painted in the last year of Motta's life, and pays tribute to the great Phil Hill and his winning of the 1961 World Championship of Drivers and the 1961 International Cup for F1 Manufacturers, which were both achieved in a Ferrari 156 F1.
