Description

Crafted by Société de Construction des Automobiles Françaises (S.C.A.F.) under François Mortarini, this c. 1968 Ford GT40 child’s car pays homage to Ford’s unparalleled dominance and cultural impact during the golden age of endurance racing. Built by S.C.A.F. between 1968 and 1969, this diminutive single-seater is finished in the iconic Gulf livery, powder blue and orange, celebrating Ford’s legendary four consecutive victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1966 to 1969.

This example is a tribute to the iconic No. 6 GT40 that achieved a dramatic victory at the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans. In one of motor sports’ most unforgettable finishes, Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver outmaneuvered Hans Herrmann’s Porsche 908 by a mere 120 meters, solidifying the GT40’s place in racing history.

Though compact in scale, this example mirrors the proportions and distinctive design elements of the original GT40. Constructed with a fiberglass body mounted on a tubular chassis, it is powered by a JLO 73 cc two-stroke engine, accessible via a removable rear lid – a detail true to its inspiration.

According to a previous auction description on file, this GT40 was reportedly originally owned by the Onassis family and restored in 1988; it was preserved in a private museum until the consignor’s acquisition. Accompanying this S.C.A.F.-built GT40 is a collection of documentation, including the Sotheby’s 1988 auction catalog, sales receipt, engine manual, and archival photographs.
