Founded in 1903, Delaunay-Belleville was known for building automobiles of the highest quality. Their exclusive clients included European royals and Russian czars. Known for their round-shaped hood, an homage to the family’s boiler business, Delaunay-Belleville was one of the most prestigious automobile manufacturers of the era.

The Mullin Collection acquired this engine circa 2006. The inline four-cylinder engine is an L-head design with two valves per cylinder and magneto-type ignition and is mounted on a wooden skid with damage to both rear-mounting legs. Currently, the engine is partially complete and in unrestored condition. While no maker identification has been found, the camshaft-run oil pump is consistent with Delaunay-Belleville designs. While the early history of this engine is not known, it is possible it was used for an industrial or marine application. Rarely offered for sale, this early and interesting four-cylinder engine could be a worthy candidate for restoration or display.
