The model proved its reputation with a class win by Hans Hermann in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana. The Porsche 550 won 95 of the 370 races it took part in, across Europe and America, with notable victories at Le Mans, the Targa Florio, the Mille Miglia and the Carrera Panamericana.
