Description
With a list price of 8’590 DM, Volkswagen's T2a bus in its most luxurious “Clipper” version with additional chrome and the optional fresh air system was, in 1969, a most economical way to acquire a van with nine seats or, alternatively, a large loading platform. The situation was rather different in Costa Rica where the local importer invoiced a pharmacy owner in August 1969 with 29’350 Colòn, then a staggering 17’600 DM! It is therefore no surprise that the little bus was not just used to transport medication and for weekend trips, but it also received the utmost necessary love and care. After passing of the pharmacist, the van was taken over by one of his daughters who in turn passed it on to her sister in 2017. In March 2018 she offered the T2 with by now 180’000 kilometres showing, to her brother-in-law, the actual vendor. Repainted by a family relative in its original colour, the car was finally shipped to Switzerland in September of the same year. Here the Clipper was prepared for the upcoming MOT. This included installing 4 new tyres, the overhaul of the ignition system and brakes, a re-sealing of the engine and the replacement of the clutch. After the successfully passed MOT the car was occasionally used at classic car events. During that time the owner purchased a new set of hubcaps, and, in September 2024, the front dampers were replaced. He now has decided, with a heavy heart, to pass the T2 on to a new owner. Currently the car is in good to very good and very original condition, mostly corrosion free. Only the front and rear vent windows show light corrosion which should be taken care of in the near future and at the same time the rubber seals around those windows should be replaced. This VW bus stemming from one family ownership with a documented history and 184’600 kilometres driven will be handed over to a new owner with its most recent veteran MOT from September 2024.
