Description

Built in its final model year, this supremely rare and desirable 1967 Deluxe Samba Type 2 T1 Microbus features the 21-window design with a twotone paint scheme, 12-volt electrics, and deluxe trim. Delivered new to Oldenburg, Germany, it was built with what is likely the rarest combination of factory options, including double-sliding side doors, a walk-through front-seat configuration, and safari-style hinged windscreens. Benefiting from a three-year restoration beginning in 2013, this Deluxe Microbus was completely disassembled and stripped to bare metal before being refinished in its original Sea Blue and Cumulus White, as specified by its Stiftung Automuseum Volkswagen Zertifikat.

Much like the exterior, the cabin was restored to its specified Aero Papyrus and Steel vinyl upholstery with matching door panels and black, rubber-lined floors. The painted steel dashboard features an analog clock, push-button radio, and restored speedometer. Below the dash are upgraded Focal speakers and an auxiliary radio adapter, as well as a cabin air-vent system. In addition to a rebuilt, period-correct engine, this Microbus includes a rare factory Eberspächer gasoline heater. With only a tiny handful of 21-window “Double Slider” Microbuses known to exist, perhaps as few as three, such an exceptionally well-equipped example is seldom encountered and is arguably the Holy Grail of this universally loved classic.
