Volkswagen itself delivered this splendid Volkswagen Golf GTI 1.8 Mk1 in Germany on the 5th January 1983. This is the holy grail of ‘hot hatches’: an ’83 GTI (the last production year of the Mk1). At the close of 1995 this car was exported and registered in the Netherlands. The Golf underwent a full overhaul and restoration in 2009. The whole process has been documented with an extensive photographic record and many invoices. The original car wallet with its original service book and owner’s manual is present. The splendid bodywork is straight with excellent body panel fittings. The excellent quality of the underbody is in keeping with the rest of the car. This really is a cult/enthusiasts car exclusively intended for GTI enthusiasts. Since the restoration the car has only been used for leisure and has been correctly looked-after. The GTI has its original ‘Lhasa metallic green’ finish with green and grey-stripped upholstery. The interior trim is original and in good condition. It has various factory-fitted extras such as the steel sunroof with a windbreaker, green tinted windows and rear seatbelts. During the restoration various upgrades were carried out. A front EPS brake system was fitted, the old rear drum brakes were replaced with disc brakes, a height adjustable and TUV accredited KW coilovers, a spaghetti manifold with a 60mm Supersprint exhaust, BBS-look rims and power steering were all added. In short a completely restored and perfectly documented Golf Mk1 GTI. An absolute cult car and a trendsetter that epitomizes the ‘Hot Hatch’ segment!
