EXTERIOR
This stunning Mk1 GTi presents in excellent condition throughout with the Alpine White paintwork looking really sharp thanks to a swirl-free shine and uniform colour across every panel. The black side stripes are a perfect accompaniment and both bumpers are without any damage or wear. Having been totally stripped back and restored in 2008 the car still shows very well – a fitting testament to the work carried out.

Now sitting slightly lower, this MK1 is fitted with coil-overs offering a more athletic look.

INTERIOR
Entirely stripped back in the search of ultimate weight saving, the familiar box dash provides the only reminder of this car’s road roots. Now fitted with the exceptional Kevlar Corbeau Revolution seats that hug and support all the right places, Luke harnesses and a welded multi – point Roll cage – the cabin now resembles something between Clubsport / Touring Car spec. The cabin space feels really rather special and ensures the car is an event even before the turn of the key.

Mk2 16v Clocks allow the engine and road speed to be picked up accurately, with window switched relocated to the top left of the dashboard. A Momo wheel and tell tale Mk4 Gearknob finish off this radical cabin space.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
If the larger wheels and punched roll cage didn’t give you fair warning, opening up the bonnet to this lovely Mk1 reveals a big development – a 1.8 Turbo conversion installed by renowned VAG specialists The Phirm.

Fitted with a Garrett GT28 Turbo, alongside a rebuilt engine with steel rods, new big end shells and ARP head stud kit; a Forge Intercooler and Tubular Manifold are amongst the highlights of a considerable invoice for parts and labour.

A new Sachs Clutck kit, solid flywheel and Peloquin differential ensure the increased torque is handled appropriately.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
16 inch Banded steel wheels attest to an OEM+ fitment and fill the arches perfectly; an appropriate up-sizing considering the power upgrade. Toyo Proxes show plenty of tread all round.

Now fitted with a Brembo big brake kit performance is a significant improvement over standard – pulling up this lightweight hatch very well indeed.

HISTORY FILE
First delivered by Drift Bridge Garage of Epsom, Surrey in August of 1983 there are 4 stamps in the original service book which sits alongside all of the original literature in the owners book pack. Despite the lack of stamps there is a fantastic timeline of invoices throughout the 80’s and 90’s that charts regular servicing and work carried out.

After a period off the road during the early 00’s the car was totally stripped down and treated to a fresh coat of Alpine White alongside the comprehensive Cage installation. The car ran with a modified 2.0 16v engine for a period before the owner decided to take a different direction with The Phirm who in 2016 would take on this fantastic project.

With £25k invested, the prominent VAG specialist ensured no stone was left unturned in the pursuit of OEM+ performance with a 7 page document itemising every nut, bolt and washer replaced to create this MK1 powerhouse.

Supplied with a new MOT this ‘sleeper’ will be ready to surprise and stimulate in equal measure – whether on the road or on track.
