The Volkswagen Beetle was produced from 1938 until 2003. With over 21 million manufactured in an air-cooled, rear engine and rear wheel drive configuration, it is the longest running and most manufactured car of a single design platform anywhere in the world. During the 1950's, it was modified progressively; the most obvious visual changes being the rear window. Towards the end of 1964, the height of the side windows and windscreen grew slightly giving the cabin a less pinched look which coincided with the introduction of a very slightly curved 'panoramic' windscreen. The same body appeared throughout 1966 with a 1300cc engine in place of the 1200cc engine; it was only in the 1973 model Super Beetle that it displayed an obviously curved windscreen. It has been regarded as something of a 'cult' car since its 1960's association with the hippie movement and surf culture.

This Volkswagen Beetle has certainly had an interesting life. Originally sent to Jewett in New Zealand on 10th August 1954, the vehicle was then shipped to South Carolina in the U.S. before arriving in the UK in 2012. This fully restored example was then overhauled mechanically including a full engine rebuild, electrical upgrade and replacement of the fuel tank and lines. The suspension and brakes were also completely overhauled. This oval rear window Beetle can only be described as being in exceptional condition throughout and has been a part of our vendors small Volkswagen collection since 2018, attending many shows and events during that time and came in the top five at Volks Weald 2019, for the 80th anniversary of the Beetle. It is now being offered for sale to free up some space for a rather special Volkswagen at our vendor's home. Supplied with a V5 registration document together with the US registration certificates, this matching numbers, right hand drive Volkswagen Beetle is ready to be enjoyed immediately.
