Founded in 1958 by the late Ken Tyrrell, a former sawmill labourer and successful Formula 3 driver, the Tyrrell Racing Organisation initially fielded Formula Junior, Formula 3 and Formula 2 cars before branching out into Formula 1 in 1968. The Ockham, Surrey, outfit would go on to become one of the most successful Grand Prix teams ever, and along the way discovered such future driving talents as John Surtees, Henry Taylor, Tony Maggs, Jacky Ickx and Jackie Stewart. In 1969, driving a Tyrrell-run Matra MS80-Ford, the latter would win the first of his World Championship titles with ease.
