Description

"This car can be viewed in person from 14th to 18th July 2020 at our the auction site, Windsorview Lakes, Datchet, SL3 9HY
Introduced in 1949, the Renown was the ultimate development of the 1800, itself historically significant as the first Triumph-badged car made by the Standard Motor Company. The 1800 incorporated a separate chassis, 1,776cc overhead-valve engine and traditional alloy-over-ash coachwork in the then fashionable ‘razor edge’ style. Subsequently being updated with components from the more-modern Standard Vanguard as it metamorphosed, firstly into the 2000 and finally into the Renown. The latter featured a Vanguard type box section chassis with coil-spring independent front suspension in addition to the new 2,088cc engine that had already been seen in the 2000. Production ceased in 1952.
The Triumph Renown offered here has been subject to a lengthy restoration and consequently presents in good order. The light stone paintwork with a black roof is typical of the period, as is the interior presented in contrasting red leather. The TDC derivative was introduced in January 1952 and benefitted from three inches additional legroom in the rear. This example has had a fully rebuilt engine and we are advised by the vendor she runs and drives well. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a collection of invoices, a Triumph Renown was once commonplace on British roads and is now a rare sight. This Mk. II version appears to be very realistically estimated.
The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day."
