Colonel Edwin B Buttery was a true patriot. He survived severe brain injury after his surveillance plane crash during the second world war. He managed to evade capture by the Germans and thanked his life to the skilful hands of a Dutch brain surgeon. He even managed to pass crucial information back to the allied forces thereby facilitating the Rheinland offence. It was only fitting therefore he was awarded the Purple Heart. His spent his remarkable life in service of his country working at the Pentagon following active service. A year before his pension he treated himself to this Triumph GT6. Later the car was passed on to his son and since then only one other person has enjoyed ownership, who realised very well this was quite an exceptional vehicle.

This 1968 Triumph GT6 has remained completely original. The bodywork is wholly unrestored and the paintwork is totally genuine. The original wire wheels are also in a good state of repair. The correctly sized tyres has good quality rubber. The chrome bumpers show a lovely patina, emphasising the car’s authentic credentials.

The interior matches the exterior perfectly. The carpets and seat upholstery are completely original. The sports seats not only looks inviting, they also provide good all-round support. Following the same theme the dashboard and instrument cluster is fully original and are in marvellous condition considering the car’s age.

Mechanically the many maintenance invoices attest to the very fine care afforded throughout the years. The Triumph GT6 Mk1 has a 2 litre straight-six has a 4-speed manual gearbox. The engine sounds great and with it’s 95 Ps was pretty powerful in its day. Add to this the fact the Triumph is as light as a feather, you have all the ingredients that make up a good sports car. Brakes and suspension are too in good shape and contribute to this Triumph GT6’s delightful authentic handling.

This is a car for those who truly appreciate originality. The signs of this car’s use tell its own story and show this is a unique car. To restore this car would be to remove its soul, preservation is our motto. The car itself is not alone is genuine the accompanying documentation is too. The original owner’s manual, service booklet and many maintenance invoices are all present. To cap it all various documents are present describing the Colonel’s life and support this car’s provenance.
