Description
Rare Tatra 12 Weymann Sedan
One of only a handful of Tatras in Australia
Part of the FM Collection
Offered at No Reserve
A real rarity in Australia, this 1930 Tatra 12 may well be the only example of its type in this country and features the fabric-covered Weymann two-door sedan body. We understand the car was purchased by the Late Owner in the Czech Republic and personally imported to Australia in 1996, forming part of the FM Collection for the next 26 years. Documents on file describe the car as an “unfinished restoration” that required further mechanical and electrical assembly, with parts to complete the repairs supplied in boxes. Photos taken at the time show the car had evidently undergone considerable refurbishment in the past and presents in good cosmetic condition today. Configured in right-hand drive, the Tatra appears to have had the fabric panels re-done, the guards and bonnet repainted and the interior upholstered in period cloth. Despite being a relatively small car, the Tatra has an impressive amount of interior space, particularly in the passenger compartment. What stands out more than anything is the quality of the fittings – from the clock and speedo to the cantilevered front seats, everything is beautifully made and nicely finished, right down to the privacy blinds.
Modern indicators have been added at some point but the Tatra appears to be otherwise correct and is showing 95,383 miles on the clock. The car will need mechanical recommissioning following an extended period of storage but appears to be complete and this should prove relatively straightforward. Currently unregistered, the car will be sold with No Reserve and comes with a Tatra 12 handbook and other manuals.
